An Invitation

Every day, Jesus extends an invitation to His table. How will you respond?

It is always fun to receive an invitation. To know that someone thought of you, wanted you. Before you even read the details the sense of belonging hits and warms your heart and mind. And then the details of the event give you a sense of who has planned this event and the thoughts that went into it fill you again because you are being included.

The Gottmans, relationship experts, talk about bids for connection and how important it is to pay attention to bids of connection in our relationships. They are so important that when they are ignored it will erode the relationship’s good will.

So it is with Jesus. He gives invitations for intimacy with Him. Over and over, every day of your life, with bids of connection 24/7. The good news with Jesus is that evading His bids for connection don’t diminish His love for you or His desire for connection, but it can diminish your sensitivity to His bids for connection over time.

Jesus’ invitation to His Table is alive and ever present. His table is set with delights for you and you alone. His attention is toward you. His focus is that you know His everlasting love daily and trust that there is no end to it.

How can you respond to the bid for connection from Jesus today? What does it feel like to KNOW the deep love that Jesus has for you at His table?

“See! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.” — Revelation 3:20 (CSB)
