Reflecting on Our Image of God

How is the ministry you pour out shaping the way you see God?

We’re natural storytellers—we love to share about our experiences, from successful events to funny coincidences, highlighting the moments that left a mark on us.

As ministry leaders, we plan countless events, programs, and services for all kinds of people. Afterward, many of us are expected to report back—to staff, a congregation, or a support base—on how things went. We share attendance numbers, stories of breakthrough, and the joys that made the effort worthwhile. And then, not long after, we begin planning the next thing.

Reflection is one of the primary ways that our experiences become part of our formation. So how often do we slow down long enough to reflect on how these experiences have shaped our own hearts? How has your ministry involvement informed your image of who God is?

Where did you see Him show up for you in the planning? What stirred in you as you witnessed someone else’s breakthrough? What questions remain from the disappointments or unmet expectations? How were you formed through the process—and where did you glimpse God’s character at work?

I invite you to take a few extra moments to look back and wonder with the Holy Spirit about how the ministry you take part in is shaping your image of God. Share what you’re noticing with a friend, spouse, coworker, or spiritual director. Make space for honest reflection and respond to God with both celebration and lament.
